Stop the Illinois Exodus

CAROL BAY had this letter in the August 6 Quad-City Times. ..... marks paragraph breaks. "Illinois voters elected Bruce Rauner in the hopes that he could save Illinois from bankruptcy and were convinced he couldn't do worse. Bruce Rauner has proposed bold steps that should restore Illinois to greatness, but his agenda is stalled in the Democrat-controlled Legislature. ..... The Democrats propose massive tax increases as solutions to the State's financial problems. This would only hasten the exodus from Illinois of more people and businesses. ..... There is a better way. Cut spending. Illinois has way too much government. As a township trustee I see how township government is not needed in Port Byron or any other urban area. Our schools have far too many administrators. Stop adding to the pension crisis. Too many favored new retirees are having their pensions "sweetened" with unearned and unpaid benefits. Control medical costs and Medicaid benefits. Repeal prevailing wage which inflates the cost of all government construction. Many Illinois governments, including Port Byron Township, took the symbolic step of rejecting prevailing wage. Government funded construction should cost the same as the private sector. Make Illinois taxes and worker compensation comparable to our neighboring states. ..... Help stop the Illinois Exodus. Support Bruce Rauner in his efforts to make Illinois great again."
